It was Saturday morning and my alarm went off really early, 5AM early, since Groovy’s tour guide Dan was going to pick me up 45 minutes later. We were headed to Cape Jervis to catch a ferry over to the magical island. But our day started with a typical Ozzie ‘brekky’ (Australian slang for breakfast) in the village of Yankalilla.
Fifty minutes after boarding the ferry, we arrived on Kangaroo Island. One of the first things we did, was buying some ‘goon’, typical cheap Ozzie wine, after which me made our way to Prospect Hill, the highest point of KI (locals talk about ‘KI’ rather than saying the island’s full name). The hill provided us with a great 360 view over the island. At this point, Dan explained us how the island was discovered and about the abundance of animals you can find on it. We ate our sandwiches on the hill and then made our way to Seal Bay. We saw heaps of sea lions being their lazy selves.
When our tour at the Seal Bay was finished, we drove to a place called the Little Sahara for my favourite part of the trip, sand boarding! This is, as the name explains, the same as snow boarding, but on sand! We had so much fun playing and racing with our boards! A couple of hours later we drove to Vivonne Bay.
Vivonne Bay was rated the best beach in Australia (based on things like clarity of water, privacy and cleanliness). After taking some nice pictures and chilling at the beach we made our way to the Groovy Cottage where we had a BBQ dinner, made a campfire and watched the amazing wildlife (kangaroos, koalas, geckos and even a scorpion).
