Ozzie favorites: mijn favo spots in Australië

**English** In 2011 I had the chance to travel around Australia and explore this giant island. Of course this country is too big to see it all at once, so I shortlisted a few personal favourites. ———————————————————————————————————————– Groene Hotspots in Adelaide: De Botanic Gardens van Adelaide zijn prachtig! Midden in de stad ligt deze...

Sunkissed: Desenzano

Reizen zit in me!                                              ** English ** Traveling, exploring the world, searching for new places. From fancy hotels to that cute little shop. From cheesy summer hitsongs to running away for the waves. I love to travel! ———————————————————————————————————————— Al vanaf mijn...

Sunkissed: de wereld ontdekken door de zon

” I got a pocket full of sunshine, I got a love and know that it’s all mine “ Bij het luisteren van dit liedje van Natasha Bedingfield dacht ik, ‘He! maar dat is een leuke categorie om mee te bloggen!’

A Day Out: ‘Het Rijksmuseum’
in Toerist in eigen land

A Day Out: ‘Het Rijksmuseum’

After almost 10 years of reconstruction, The Netherlands’ most famous and grandest museum has opened its doors again. On April 13th there was the grand opening spectacle in the presence of the Queen on what was one of her final public appearances before she abdicates on April 30th. Lucky me, I was one of the 20.000+ people that were part of the grand opening and visited The Rijksmuseum. Outside on the Museumplein in Amsterdam, there was music playing, all sorts of promotional activities of the sponsors such as this cute van by KPN, a lovely Spring sun, people of all...

Discovering the Australian Outback: The road ahead

It is one of those ‘once in a lifetime’ experiences that I was lucky enough to have! One of those experiences that I will never forget: I visited the Outback! The road ahead was long, 1530 kilometres long that is. The trip was on, gear was packed, bus spick and span and the tour guide, my colleague Trevor ready to rumble. We were on our way from Adelaide to Alice Springs, to discover the Australian Outback! I imagine most of you have heard of the Outback and the incredible Red Desert of Australia, but only a few can actually relate...

Travel trends & inspiration: Islands!

Island hopping is the travel trend of 2013. Especially when you’re the kind of traveler who can’t sit still, loves that ocean breeze, that has a adventure gen and is interested in other cultures. For Europeans, the place to be this year, is Greece. After all the economic troubles, tourists stayed away for a while but are now slowly finding their way back. Vakantie.nl a Dutch travel trend website claims that Greece is now THE place to be, and perfect for island hopping since the country has over 6.000 (!) islands. Each island has its own pluspoints so I’ve made...

Weekend break: Den Helder & Texel

Often we go on weekend breaks and often we consider cities such as Paris, Berlin, London or Rome. Big cities. Capital cities. But most of all…. well known cities. Over Easter, my boyfriend and I went on a short break to the relatively unknown city of Den Helder, and one of the Dutch ‘Wadden Islands’ namely Texel. After both having been really busy for the past few weeks, this break was well deserved and kind of necessary. So on was the search for a cheap hotel in a place far away, but within NL, that we could reach by train....

Nominated for a Liebster award

Earlier this week, I was pleasantley surprised when I received a nomination for a Liebster Award from Memoirs of a Metropolitan Girl :). Blogging for Marlow Travels isn’t a paid job, but it is something I do for fun and to extend my writing skills. Being nominated for this award is therefore an honor. Even though it is not necessarily an award, it is a recognition and nice way to promote good blogs that have less than 200 (WordPress) followers. Being nominated gives me a also the right to nominate some of my own favorite blogs, the requirements are: 1). Thank the Liebster...

Ghent, hiddem gem?

Don’t you know that feeling? That you think that The United States are similar to Canada, That New Zealand is similar to Australia and that Korea is similar to Japan?Well I always have that feeling when I think of Belgium, the country being similar to The Netherlands. Last summer I spent my summer holiday in Flanders, the Dutch speaking region in the north of Belgium. Belgium, a country that lies a little over an hour away from where I live (near The Hague). A country that in many aspects is so the same and yet so different at times. During...

Bikes, Bridges and the Belfry - a tour through the Belgian city of Brugges

Bikes, Bridges and the Belfry

As a full-time student, money is not something that is easy to come by but traveling is even harder to go without! As a compromise, my boyfriend and 2 of our best friends, decided to go cheap & chique. We were headed to our southern neighbor, Belgium. As the friends, Marjolein and Kevin, are moving in together soon, and Tristan and I had a rather extraordinary trip last year, meant that we had to come up with a low-budget itinerary that still meant that we could indulge during our holiday. As Dutchies, we are naturally used to riding our bikes...

Tourist in your own country – Holland case study on Photography

Untill I took part in my exchange student experience, for which I spent 10 months living with a host family in rural Oregon, United States and went to high school there, I really looked down upon my own country when it came to landscpes, nature, cities and other things to see. I always thought that Holland (or the Netherlands more properly) was a way too small country to live in and be able to see a lot of beautiful things. It was for that reason that I always had the urge to go abroad. I didn’t really matter where, as...

Back to Basics in New Zealand

New Zealand is a country that is somewhat of a fairytale for a lot of people. Depending on where you’re from of course, but often it’s the ‘end of the world’ and getting there takes a good deal of patience on an airplane. But once you’re there …. well you never want to go back! Before I got to New Zealand (NZL), I didn’t really know what to expect. Of course, I’d bought a guidebook (Insight Guides really is the best 1 out there!) and read a bit into it but other than that, it was all a bit of...
